Many children are born with a condition called cranial asymmetry, in which the shape of the newborn’s head can be noticeably distorted. According to experts, this condition may also signal future plagiocephaly and, in extreme cases, it might result in decreased mental capabilities due to the wrong placement of the infant’s skull bones.
To prevent these complications, healthcare professionals recommend changing the position of the baby’s head while sleeping as well as when they just are laying awake.
Parents should also hold the baby more (most of the time) until they’re 6 months old when the skull begins to get into a normal shape.
