6 Reasons Why Children Become Bullies

Last Updated on April 19, 2021

6. Have power over others

An act of bullying presupposes a very clear power relation in which the aggressor holds control over the victim – whether because he is physically stronger or for some other reason. This desire to dominate and to have power over others can turn a child into a bully. However paradoxical it may seem, this desire can also be a sign of weakness, insecurity, and fear over losing social status or power over someone – and bullying is nothing more than an attempt to cover those insecurities and fears. This is where parenting and family relationships are extremely important to ensure that a child has the emotional stability necessary to deal with their problems without insecurities, fears, and aggressive behaviors that may endanger other children’s well-being and mental health. It’s important to remember that a child who becomes a bully is a child that needs help. To provide that much-needed support is necessary to understand the root cause or causes triggering that type of aggressive behavior. Do everything in your might to help your child overcome such problems, including therapy. There are many qualified professionals out there who are used to dealing with similar situations and have the relevant experience or knowledge to guide your child during troubled times. If nothing is done, those underlying situations can lead to long-term social and personal issues.
