5. Threatening your kid

It’s ok to say they won’t get to eat dessert or they’ll lose playtime if they misbehave. But doing emotional blackmail like saying you won’t love them anymore, or that they’ll sleep on the attic alone for the boogeyman to come and take them, can be interpreted as a form of child abuse.

Bad parents do this all the time. They project such negative emotions to their kids’ that they grow up to be scared of their parents and have low self-esteem, which is not what you want if you love your kids and want the best for them.
