4. Errands don’t have to be boring either
Taking your kids shopping can be very stressful, but you can always do your best to make it easier on yourself. If you have a little one, take them for a ride on the shopping cart – this should be enough to entertain them. If your kids are older, you can suggest a supermarket competition. Split your shopping list in half and see which one of you can find all the items first. If your kid wins, reward them by letting them pick something small for themselves, like a lollipop.
5. Be a playful parent
Why is it important to spend time with your child? Because the childhood memories they have with you will be quite defining for them growing up and for their relationship with you as well. If your kids are playing at home, join them. If you take them to the park, don’t be the boring parent who sits by and watches. Push them on the swing or pick up some flowers with them. These small moments can be remembered as huge treasures in the future. Help your children build beautiful memories!
6. Don’t be the parent who always says no
Parents seem to enjoy saying “No” to their kids a lot. If this is the case for you, have you ever wondered why you do it? Maybe because you feel like it’s the best way to discipline them? Or perhaps because you feel like it’s the best way to make them respect you? Either way, if you keep saying no to your children just for the sake of saying no, this can have the opposite effect of what you intended. They will grow increasingly frustrated because you keep denying them things without providing a proper explanation. No, saying “because I am the parent and what I say goes” is not a proper explanation. If you think about it, it’s quite dumb, and it can send your child the wrong message: that people in power can order them around without any reason whatsoever. Learn to say yes instead and fulfill your children’s small requests now and then.
