#8 – What the changes fathers go through!

Men also experience physical changes, even though not as massively as women do.

When a man first finds out that his partner is pregnant, he may experience a spike in cortisol, the stress hormone, setting his brain on alert. This is what can make a dad-to-be feel an irresistible urge to get everything ready before the baby comes.

Moreover, men can surprisingly experience an increase in prolactin levels and a decrease in testosterone levels while their partner is pregnant. Prolactin is the hormone that helps produce breast milk in women, and science has no answer to why it happens in male bodies.

Men probably feel these changes as a biological way to get ready for becoming fathers. But once the baby arrives, all hormone levels get back to normal, well, except for testosterone, which may be lower in men who are more involved in caring for and raising their baby. Again, no scientific explanation.
