Childhood Obesity: How And When You Should Take Action!

Last Updated on January 31, 2020

3. So How Can You Prevent Childhood Obesity?

• Exercising

The first solution is the most obvious one. Any childhood obesity prevention program includes exercising. Now, exercising is not going to the gym. It can be anything that keeps your body moving such as walking, dancing, playing sports, riding a bicycle and so on.
Even if your kid hates exercising, you should be able to find one activity he enjoys doing! Just google some outdoor activities for kids, every kid enjoys being outside so why not search on that? If you prefer there’s also a lot of indoor activities for kids like swimming or martial arts (perfect for cold days).
Exercising is the easiest way to battle obesity since you can still eat some “unhealthy” foods because you’ll be burning them right after! Use this as an incentive!

• Eating Habits

The second way is the one kids hate the most: eating healthy.
Even for us, adults it’s hard to eat healthily. The taste of soda isn’t the same as water, and you 100% prefer Mcdonald’s over salad or soup. You’re not alone. Your kid feels the same way too. The best thing you can do is try to make healthy food look good! How? Try to make a face on the plate or draw something with the ingredients. Kids are most likely to eat something that looks good and inviting (even if it’s healthy).
If this doesn’t work, try to take it slow and tell them that if they eat healthily today tomorrow they can have a bag of chips, or a soda, just to get them used to eating or at least trying to eat healthier things.
There are so many healthy snacks for kids you can find online, most of them with ingredients you wouldn’t even think are healthy! Go search and be amazed at all the amazing healthy snacks for weight loss recipes.

Now that you’ve learned about childhood obesity prevention, you must know that at the end of the day you should always make your kid do some type of activity, even if they don’t have weight problems. Some kids are overfat and then grow up to be skinny while others begin skinny and when they go through puberty they’ll start getting fat.
Exercising not only prevents this from happening but it also helps your kid living a healthy active life. I know for a fact I would be very thankful right now if my parents never stopped taking me to swimming lessons. Even though I didn’t like it too much at that time, it would have made me stronger today and more confident. So if your kid is bored with football, you can switch to a different sport or activity. But quitting from everything and living a sedentary life is not an option!
