What to Do When Your Child is Lying to You?

#5 – Be honest and stay calm

Parents should always remember that their kids are watching and observing what they do and say all the time, so every mom and dad needs to make sure to always be a good model of honesty. The parents’ actions are the kids’ example for acceptable behaviors and setting good examples will make it easier for your little ones to follow the right path.

Also, when your kids lie to your face, you should do your very best to remain calm. If you get angry with your child, you’d be concentrating on your reaction rather than the actual issue. Once you’re sure that your kid is lying, sit down and try to approach the problem calmly and reasonably.

Yelling and fear of punishment will make the kid too scared to tell the truth, so try to create a safe space where they can open their little hearts and minds to you without any fear or further lies.
