#3 – Find out the hidden cause behind the lie
When you catch your kid lying, try to figure out what could be the reason for hiding the truth. There must be something that your child is trying to avoid and you should know what it is.
To get the honest version of the story, you should calmly approach your kid while assuring her/him that there’s nothing to be afraid of and that you’re willing to listen carefully and take time to figure everything out. This can also help prevent your child from lying in the future since they can feel safe telling you the truth.
For younger kids, you can turn to bedtime stories, like Pinocchio or The Boy Who Cried Wolf, to help your little ones understand the importance of telling the truth.
